THE OUTREACH PROGRAM
Making Meals Matter partners with The Outreach Program, an Iowa-based nonprofit, to package their ingeniously-developed meals with the different volunteer groups we partner with in California.
Floyd Hammer and his wife Kathy founded the organization in 2004, to help address hunger and critical needs in Tanzania. Using his background in manufacturing; Floyd invented the volunteer meal packaging process and worked with Iowa State University food scientists to develop a high-protein meal that used a combination of dry ingredients to provide complete nutrition.
Fifteen years later, there are seven meal varieties available for groups to package and Floyd’s original idea has helped feed millions of people in this country and around the world.
Families experiencing food insecurity should still have access to healthy options that help meet their dietary needs. All seven Outreach Program varieties are vegetarian, high in protein and contain 21 essential vitamins & minerals. And for added convenience, nearly all the meals are microwavable and only need water and a heat source to be prepared.
Macaroni & Cheese
Minestrone Soup
Tomato Basil Pasta
Cinnamon Apple Oatmeal
Fortified Rice & Bean
For families receiving food assistance, there are often limited options at food banks for people with dietary needs or food allergies. With two gluten-free meal varieties, people can find a healthy option at their local food bank and know that it won’t affect their digestive system.
