What is Food Insecurity?

Every day in this country, food insecurity looks like a series of tough choices. Working families often choose between paying their utility bills and providing quality nutrition for themselves and their children. Unlike hunger, which can lead to malnutrition; food insecurity leads to poor nutrition with limited access to foods that help people lead an active, healthy life. Many food insecure families are living in food deserts, areas where their closest options are fast food chains which mean empty calories, obesity and a higher risk of chronic health problems.
